The Baptism of Jesus our Lord

Matthew 3:13-17 tells us that Jesus came to John at the Jordan River to be baptized by him. At that time, Jesus was 30 years of age. At first, John refused to baptize Jesus, by saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?” (Matthew 3:14), for he knew Him as the very incarnate God. Then, Jesus said again seriously to John, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness” (Matthew 3:15). Jesus had to fulfill all of God’s righteousness by receiving the baptism from John the Baptist in a form of laying on of hands. God’s righteousness was for Jesus to take the sins of the world onto Himself by receiving the baptism. The historical moment, when Jesus lowered His head in front of John the Baptist and John the Baptist baptized Him by laying his hands on Jesus’ head, was the most miraculous event in the entire history of this universe. Jesus received the baptism by John the Baptist because that was the only method through which God’s righteousness could be fulfilled. https://www.bjnewlife.org/en/sermons/sermonsDetail.php?idx=2457&findLang=English
